Summary:

The Clinical Practice Lead/ RN is a professional registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maine. The incumbent will provide clinical oversight to the clinical support staff in their designated practice(s) and/or department(s). Direct patient care within the RN scope of practice will be performed in order to maintain clinical competency, as determined by practice needs. The RN will serve as a role model to the clinical staff; utilizing effective communication, consistently adhering to Northern Light Health Standards of Behavior and policies; demonstrating safe, competent, and compassionate care to the patient/family.

Responsibilities:

+ Demonstrates knowledge and competency in the provision of nursing care appropriate to the patient population served by the designated practice(s) and/or department(s).

+ Responsible for clinical/administrative duties, including, but not limited to,clinical staff scheduling, oversight of clinical staffs’ orientations and education, development of individualized clinical action plans and coaching as needed, staff’s annual competencies, and fostering staff’s professional growth; under the guidance of the Director of Clinical Services.

+ Assists the practice manager with the interviewing, hiring, and disciplinary processes.

+ Responsible for the development, implementation, revision and reporting of the clinical Performance Improvement activities appropriate to the practice(s)/department(s).

+ Will be an active participant on the Policy and Procedure committee; utilizing evidenced-based-practice to improve patient care, practice flow, and meet regulatory requirements essential to achieve a consistently high standard of patient care.

+ Responsible for ensuring the clinical environment is in compliance with JCAHO and Maine state regulations.

+ Responsible for identifying the need for, supporting, and assisting in the development/administration of continued education for clinical support staff. Also recognizes the importance of professional development and growth for self; seeking out appropriate clinical/leadership educational opportunities.

+ Comply with all mandatory educational offerings, Healthstream assignments, and attend all meetings as scheduled (unless excused by practice manager and/or Director of Clinical Services).

+ Role model commitment to the philosophy and objectives of Nothern Light Health’s Mission, Vision, Strategic Plan, and Service Excellence

+ Maintain a safe environment for healthcare workers, patients, and/or visitors complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; review, document and address all incidents and safety violations within area of responsibility; report all lost time due to reported work injuries within 24 hours to local HR BP or Safety contact; support and facilitate open and non-punitive communication among Northern Light Health employees, non-employed healthcare workers, patients and visitors, reporting and addressing patient and environmental safety concerns.

+ Communicates daily with the manager to ensure proper operation of the practice(s)/department(s) in order to provide the best care for the patient panel.

+ Will huddle with clinical support staff on a daily basis; encouraging staff to effectively communicate concerns, provide real-time education, and ensure that the clinical environment is maintained appropriately. Ensures appropriate communication is occurring between, front-end staff, clinical staff, and providers.

+ Perform other work-related/clinical duties, within the RN scope of practice, as assigned.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Current unencumbered Maine State RN license. AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to work occasional extended/weekend hours as staffing and/or education requires. EDUCATION SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. The clinical supervisor must have a minimum of 2-3 years of clinical nursing experience. Two years of experience in an ambulatory setting similar to that which they will be providing clinical oversight is highly preferred. The Clinical Supervisor should have a work history demonstrative of progressive leadership. BLS is required within the first week of employment. Employees must maintain CPR certification throughout employment when in a clinical position. ACLS may also be required; dependent on the procedures/interventions performed in the practice(s)/department(s) under their supervision. De-escalation and workplace violence training will be completed at hire prior to release from orientation PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS: This job is classified by the Dept of Labor as requiring a LIGHT level of physical effort. 1. Lifting/Carrying: Up to 20 lbs occasionally (less than 1/3 of shift or job cycle), and/or up to 10 lbs frequently (up to 2/3 of shift). 5. Twisting. Occasionally ( less than 1/3 of shift) 6. Bending. Occasionally ( less than 1/3 of shift) 7. Squatting/Kneeling: Rarely (less than 10% of shift or job cycle). 8. Endurance. This job is classified as LIGHT 9. Extreme Wrist Position. This job is NOT classified as a requiring a high level of repetitive upper extremity movement 12. Manual Dexterity. Occasional Frequent fine motor skills required. 13. Either Handedness. 70%- 100% of job cycle time. 14. Both Handedness. 70%-100% of job cycle time. 13. Tasks Requiring Use of Either Hand or Dominant Hand. 60%- 100% of shift or job cycle time. 14. Tasks Requiring Use of Both Hands. Up to 40% of shift or job cycle time. 15. Sight. Requires corrected 20/25 near vision and minimum 20/40 corrected far vision. 16. Hearing. Can hear whispered voice at eight (8) feet (FAA class II). Must be able to recognize speech at normal tone and volume at normal conversational distance (up to 4 feet). 17. Speech. Frequent clear speaking ability required. Ability to speak and be comprehended in normal conversation. 18. Exposure to Infection, radiation, electric shock or toxic chemicals: This job does not present significant risk of exposure to bloodborne infection, radiation, electric shock or toxic exposure under normal working conditions. Minimal. ENVIROMENTAL FACTORS: 1. High/Low Temperature. Work environment 70-80°F. No significant exposure to extremes of temperature, weather, humidity, or adverse atmospheric conditions are anticipated under normal work conditions. 2. Hazardous Noise. None anticipated under normal working conditions. Slight, occasionally fairly loud sounds. 3. Working with Others. Close association is frequent and compromises a major portion of the job. 4. Confined Spaces or Cramped Body Positions. Job does not involve work in cramped positions/confined spaces (0 hours per week). 5. Body Injuries. No significant likelihood of traumatic injury – deep cuts, fractures or permanent disabling injuries under normal working conditions.. 6. Exposure to/Injury by Moving Objects.
