Re: 1952-L110 Shorty.

I wish you had not shown it to us since it is not available, but I understand, I have a friend that takes some of his rare mini-bikes to swap meets, but won't sell them. He just sets so high a price the askers back down.
That is one part I'd really like for my '54 R-122 though....mine has a rock ding in it OldIHC • View topic - 1952-L110 Shorty. (10)

Re: 1952-L110 Shorty.

WHAT?
There may be some IH stuff for sale after our last Binder Build is done. I have saved the best of the best for ourselves. It is more than luck to have so much of these old Binder Bits end up here. CRAIGSLIST has been an excellent source and on a few occasions, there was a knock on the shop door and a person holding a box of good IH stuff, including IH wrenches and several sets of NOS L&R clearance light complete assemblies. I think of it as KARMA .

During shop cleaning we found a few more Binder Bits. These pieces may have been here for 30 years. they are being shown for interest only.

Re: 1952-L110 Shorty.

I've never been accused of being a tease. I never had the "credentials" to take a teasing chance, so when I got an opportunity, it was game on.
Getting the shop into some order has had a few rather pleasing surprises. I have had more than a dozen IH pickups pass through this shop and many went out as parts. I gave several truck loads to the Man in Merritt for his side show and my son sold another truck load of bits at a swap-meet. I guess that there is quite a lot left, really. I think I might have enough to build 2 complete trucks from pieces. My son counted our doors and there are 19 of which 10 are right side L & R small window. Some of the doors and other sheetmetal have been in dry storage for 30 years. After my final build, which will need four doors, I will have a sale to clear the place out, or Mike might just get it all.

Re: 1952-L110 Shorty.

Looks like a show many should view prior to getting into a restoration. (Spoiler alert, link is only the start of a TV program). I guess my restoration rather than upgrade may have been the "cost effective" path, but I can't say I wish I could use the result more often than the "antique" classification it is currently under allows. Shows that even after the "plan" is completed, there are always second thoughts. Still, if it only reduces the amount of "unfinished" projects, the program is a public service. I believe unmolested trucks are more desirable to others because less "fixing" of another person's upgrades or alterations, as well as the missing parts, reduces the overall cost and time spent. Still, isn't that the propose of a hobby, i.e. to take up time and waste money?
I'm looking forward to seeing the results of this particular project (after the Ford is finished of course)! - Bob OldIHC • View topic - 1952-L110 Shorty. (30)

Re: 1952-L110 Shorty.

Two of the things that I have learned with the Ford and IHC from years ago and now the "L", it is this. KISS. I have always wanted to do a vehicle with lots of complications and the Ford is it. What else have I learned. Doing anything is better than doing nothing. I like your statement, isn't that the propose of a hobby, i.e. to take up time and waste money
The "L" build up is a serious up-grade, but I would not call it complicated. Taken one piece at a time it is not too difficult. I am not inventing anything new for the "L" but transferring ideas from other vehicles.
For a time, I thought that I could keep both the "L and the 40 alive at the same time, but the reality is, this is way to intense and the fun went away in a day. So, all of the "L" pieces are in storage until...........
I attached the You Tube link from Stacey David because I was thinking of all the well intentioned Binder projects that I have bought and parted out because the well intentioned last owner did not have a detailed plan including a basic idea of the cost. I know of four more IHC pickups that are going to come up for sale any time soon. The butt-heads did not have a plan longer than the end of the day. It is usually a wife or a parent who calls the end. Cost is the biggest project killer. There is no short-cut to a quality finish. It all costs money and a person can double the cost by being "cheap".
If you are having your project built by someone other than yourself, make sure that you are able to drop in from time to time for a look-see. If it appears to not be important to you, the owner, it will quickly become less important to others.

Re: 1952-L110 Shorty.

And that can be even more likely the further you are from the "project" and the person that is doing the work. You either have to be in no real hurry and Trust the Person, and or be willing to abandon the time/money/dream and hope that someone will get useful parts from the "carcass" of your dreams.

Just my thoughts
