Is there is any evidence to back up the claims that drinking warm lemon water in the morning can improve digestion? Let’s science it. First we need to define lemon water. Generally it is about 8oz of water mixed with the juice of ½ a lemon, usually about 2 tbsp. This is around 20% of your daily vitamin C requirement. 2 tablespoons is a negligble source of other nutrients, both beneficial minerals like potassium and nutrients we tend to over consume like sugar and calories..
There are health claims all over the internet saying that lemon water aids in digestion, but these claims are always super vague it sounds good, but what does it actually mean? Does it make enzymes work better? Optimize pH for digestion? Alter gut motility? Drinking enough water is certainly necessary for all bodily functions, including gut motility and preventing constipation. But there’s no evidence that the lemon part of lemon water impacts any measureable aspect of digestion. There are lots of other claims stating that lemon water aids in detoxification. Everytime that I see claims about detox, my science spidey sense always asks what toxins specifically? Most detox claims never reference what toxins are being eliminated. Our liver and kidneys are specialized for detoxifying our blood from metabolic breakdown products like ammonia. Sufficient water intake is necessary for liver and kidney function, but again there’s no evidence that the lemon part of lemon water is doing anything. If your liver and kidneys aren’t functioning well then more intensive treatments than lemon water are needed. For those susceptible to kidney stones, studies have shown that lemon water can be an alternative treatment to potassium citrate supplements since it contains citric acid. If this applies to you, talk to your personal doctor. There’s no evidence that the temperature of lemon water has any impacts, apart from avoiding scalding heat that would damage your mouth and throat. Temperature is a matter of personal preference. So overall there is no evidence that drinking lemon water improves digestion or aids in detoxification, but does that mean you shouldn’t drink it? No, not necessarily. Drinking water is critical for health, so if the citrus flavour of lemon water helps you drink more water then it could be a healthy habit to get into. Lemon water is certainly a healthier beverage choice than soda or energy drinks. If drinking lemon water becomes a regular part of your routine, you’ll want to take a few precautions for dental health. Lemon water is very acidic, so you don’t want to be bathing your teeth in it all day because it can erode tooth enamel and increase risk of cavities. You could aim to drink lemon water when eating because you’ll be producing more saliva which acts as a buffer. You could also rinse with plain water or drink through a reuseable straw to reduce contact with teeth. Lemon water can be a tasty way to increase water consumption, so if you like it, drink it. That’s what science tastes like..

ORAL HYGIENE QUESTIONS:
1 Should you rinse your mouth with water after you brush your teeth?
2 Should you floss your teeth or brush first?
3 Should you use mouthwash after brushing your teeth?
4 How often should you change your toothbrush or electric toothbrush head?
5 How long should you wait after eating food before you brush your teeth?
6 What if you don’t like the physical act of flossing or it keep tearing?
7 What if the gaps between your teeth are too big for the floss?
8 What toothpaste would you recommend?
9 Should you clean your tongue? And how should you clean it?
FOOD AND BRUSHING TEETH:
It’s important to note that brushing your teeth immediately after eating can in some cases have a negative effect on your tooth enamel. If you have consumed something acidic, you should avoid brushing your teeth for about 30 minutes afterwards..
Foods that contain citric acid, like oranges, grapefruits and lemons, can soften tooth enamel for a time, and brushing too soon after eating them may damage the enamel while it’s in its weakened state..
In general, try eating nutritious foods that are low in sugar and carbohydrates after eating something acidic. This will help reduce the harmful acids that such foods can create..
In addition, prolonged exposure to phosphoric acid, which is often found in soft drinks, can erode your tooth enamel, exposing the more sensitive tissues beneath. Acid erosion can cause permanent damage to your teeth, so to keep it to a minimum, limit snacking between meals and limit your consumption of soft drinks and sugary snack foods..
FLUORIDE CONTENT IN TOOTHPASTES:
• Children under 3 years old should brush twice daily, with a smear of toothpaste containing at least 1,000ppm fluoride..
• Children between 3 and 6 years old should brush at least twice daily with a pea-sized amount of toothpaste containing more than 1,000ppm fluoride..
• Adults should brush at least twice daily with a toothpaste containing 1,350-1,500ppm fluoride..
Don’t use mouthwash at the same time as brushing. Use it at an alternative time, because it washes away the fluoride in the toothpaste.
If you still have any questions feel free to leave a comment below and we will add it to the list for a potential future video with Dr Ehsan..
Please note: All information given in this video is general advice, you should always speak with your dentist if any issues arise..

What is Citric Acid?
Show Description
In this video I discuss Citric Acid. What is it? How it is made, and is it harmful?
Transcript.
What is citric acid?
Whats up dudes, and whats up ladies, bryan here and in this video we are going to look at citric acid..
What is it, where does it come from, and how it can affect our health. So, Lets roll..
Citric acid is an acid that occurs naturally in citrus fruits. Lemons and limes have higher concentrations, some times as much as 8% of their dry weight. Other fruits such as oranges and grapefruits contain citric acid, but at much lower concentrations. However, there is a much less expensive way to produce the acid, and the demand for citric acid far outweighs the supply of citrus fruits available..
The way most citric acid is made is by cultivating a mold called Aspergillus niger, which causes a disease called black mould on certain fruits and vegetables. Aspergillus niger is fed sucrose or glucose, which is sugar, and then processing the resulting fermented compound to yield citric acid..
Most citric acid is used in foods and beverages as it provides a tart, citrus taste and acts as a preservative. Because of its acidic ph, many bacteria are unable to grow in its environment. It also is found in soaps and detergents because of its ability to soften water, and many cosmetics use it as a preservative as it helps adjust the acid/base balance..
So, is citric acid harmful or unhealthy? Aspergillus niger fermentation is generally recognized as safe by the U.S …FDA. The main concern with citric acid is, does it come from GMOs as a starting material? There are gm versions of the Aspergillus niger mold, as well as gm sugar beets..
Some companies are producing non GMO versions. The most harmful effect seems to be that overexposure to citric acid can erode tooth enamel, leading to decay. It is hard to imagine that anyone can eat enough citrus fruits to cause this, but, drinking and eating a lot of products that contain the acid could take its toll..
Other symptoms may include stomach ache, diarrhea and nausea..
Bottom line. It is always about moderation. It is probably impossible to completely avoid this ingredient, just increase your awareness by reading ingredient labels and gauge how much of it you are consuming, oh and make sure you brush you teeth..
Alright, if you have any questions or comments you can leave them below, if you like the video hit thumbs up, if you didn’t like the video hit the thumbs down…til next time, im out, see ya..

Citric acid is found naturally in most fruits and as an additive in many commercial drinks. Other than water, there are only a few beverage options that don’t have citric acid, including some root beers, green tea, and milk and milk alternatives.what drinks do not contain citric acid. A 53-year-old member asked: Can drinking citric acid burn fat?
Dr. Valencia Porter answered. 20 years experience in Holistic Medicine.
Likely not: Citric acid is a natural chemical compound found in citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, and oranges. There is no relationship to burning fat, althou.Almond milk, for example, has an alkaline composition, which can help neutralize stomach acidity and relieve acid reflux symptoms. Soy milk contains less.Whether or not you can find a soft drink without acid depends on how you define a “soft drink.” Some people immediately think of carbonated beverages when they hear the term soft drink.
Since the carbonation comes from an acid, those drinks are by nature acidic. Other people consider a soft drink any drink that doesn’t have any “hard” liquor. Most varieties of pure, all-natural green tea contain no added citric acid, according to the Green-Tea-Expert website. However, specialty varieties of green tea-such as lemon-flavored-do.Enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables as part of your citric acid-free diet.
However, avoid berries, cayenne peppers, lettuce, pineapple and tomatoes. Also avoid juices and beverages that incorporate these fruits and vegetables or include citric acid in the ingredients list. Step 5.Ginger tea can help soothe the stomach. Ginger naturally soothes the stomach and can help reduce the production of stomach acid.
Caffeine-free.Citric acid is added to a variety of other foods and beverages, and can be found in ingredient lists on packaging. Condiments and dressings likely contain citric acid, often because they’re made with lemon juice. Fruit-flavored candy and frozen desserts often have citric acid, as do most soft drinks.
Beverages or food products that contain these fruits — such as ketchup in the case of tomatoes — also contain citric acid. While not naturally occurring, citric acid is also a byproduct of.Mineral sodas or sparkling water can be a good substitute. If you do wish to drink alcohol, go with lower phosphorus red or white wine.
Citric acid: It’s one of the most common food additives found in our food supply today, yet for many of us it remains a mysterious ingredient. In some countries, citric acid has been used as an additive in foods, cosmetics and many other products for more than 100 years, mostly as a preservative and flavor enhancer.Citric acid, or citrate, is an organic acid that exists in all fruits, especially in citrus fruits used to make fruit juices.
Fruit juice varies in citric acid content, depending upon the type of fruit and the use of citric acid additives. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration considers citric acid a safe natural acid in the diet.Citric acid is used in sodas to add tartness 2. While cane sugar or high fructose corn syrup provides the main sweetness source, citric acid provides the sharp, tangy taste found in fruit sodas and colas, according to Understanding Food Additives 2. Different sodas contain different acids.Citrus fruits are already on the acid reflux avoidance list from Harvard, but there’s a hidden form of citrus in the drinks your gym sells: citric acid. “Citric acid is added in most sports and energy drinks,” reports Rutgers University.
For example, in one very popular sports drink product, it’s one of the very first ingredients.Hi Gocart, I’m sure some juices have more citric acid than others. I drink a lot of apple and white grape juice and recently have been trying mango juice although it’s pretty sweet. These don’t seem to have quite as much acid.
I try to make myself drink water throughout the day but it’s pretty boring. I think grapefruit juice is probably the worst.
